Remember Me Test Screening ***No Spoilers***

This post will only discuss things that were said about the film in general terms. No worries about spoilers.


Last Thursday Remember Me was test screened. Here is some feedback that was posted on various forums across the Internet including blogs, Twitter, Live Journal and IMDb. Another piece of great news that came out of the screening on Thursday night. Letters to Rob blog first reported that Robert Pattinson is listed as an executive producer!

Cast Spotlight Gregory Jbara

Gregory Jbara (pronounced juh bar uh) will be playing Les Hirsch, Tyler and Caroline’s step-father.

Gregory was born in Westland, MI and attended Wayne Memorial High School in Wayne, MI. He began college at the University Of Michigan School Of Music in the musical theater program, but he would transfer to The Juilliard School where he would study acting and receive his BFA.

His resume is both extensive and varied. He has done work on and off Broadway, has been in films and on television, has done voiceovers for animation and preformed songs for recordings. There is a very good chance that you have seen Gregory in something that he has done.

He first appeared on TV in 1987 in a guest spot on The Newhart Show. In 1988 he appeared in the stage production of Serious Money as a LIFFE Member and a trader. 1988 also was the year that he first appeared on the big screen. He played Tommy, an office boy in the the feature, The House on Carroll Street (1988) starring Kelly McGillis and Jeff Daniels.

Since then, Gregory has been busy. On Broadway, he originated the roles of the catcher Sohovik in the revival of Damn Yankees! (1994-95), Squash Bernstein in Victor/Victoria (1995-97), Andre Thibault in Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels (2005-06) and Dad in Billy Elliot (2008-present). He was a Drama Desk nomination for his role as Thibault and won both the 2009 Drama Desk and the Tony Award for best featured actor for his role as Dad. He was also in Chicago as the second Billy Flynn. He has signed on for another season of Billy Elliot.

Some of his other theater projects include roles in Precious Sons for which he received the Backstage West Garland 2000 award and Neil Simon’s Oscar and Felix. Other off-Broadway and touring plays that he appeared in include Forever Plaid, Privates on Parade, Little Fish and There’s Someone in the House that Jack Built.

His film projects include Walter Brackett in In & Out (1997), Edward in The Out-of-Towners (1999), Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1999), Hank in The First $20 Million Is Always The Hardest (2002). He also appeared in Ira and Abby (2006), World Trade Center (2006), Project 96b (2007), Exit Speed (2008), the short film Out of Step (2008) and his voice is heard singing in Enchanted (2007).

Gregory has been a guest star on many television programs including Suddenly Susan (1998), Frasier (1999), Malcolm in the Middle (2001), Ally McBeal (2001), Crossing Jordan (2002), Providence (2002), The West Wing (2003), Touched by an Angel (2003), Without a Trace (2003), Friends (2004), Century City (2004), Conviction (2006), The Unit (2007) and Monk (2008). He has also had recurring roles in Drew Carey (1998), That’s Life (2000, 2001) and Grounded for Life (2002-2005).

He has also provided voice overs for the animated shows Rocket Power (1999-2000), The Family Guy (1999-2008) and American Dad (2008-2009).

His recordings include the Broadway cast recordings of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Victor/Victoria and Damn Yankees! and Little Fish on Ghostlight Records; First Lady Suite on PS Classics; Brigadoon and Annie Get Your Gun on EMI; A Broadway Christmas, Unsung Musicals II, Unsung Berlin, Peter Pan, and Drat The Cat! on Varese/Sarabande.

Gregory was also the announcer on Ripley’s Believe It or Not for three seasons, played Kenny in a Carnegie Hall concert of Very Warm May, and sang You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story for the TV special 75 Years of Disney Music. He also sang the title song for the animated Disney flick Home on the Range.

Looking for Your Input for a Remember Me Trailer

Deanna, who created our wonderful Remember Me fan made trailer is looking for your help in creating another.

I want to do another trailer, but something a little different this time. I want to do a fan one, with some comments from the fans included as little "sound bites" promoting the film. I would also like to include pix that you all think are really good representations of what you are looking forward to in this film.

For example, a photo of Ally and Caroline on the beach might include the caption "A tender story of relationships... A must see!!" ~Deanna, fan in Virginia.

Possible Release Date Change

Box Office Mojo has noted in their schedule change and adjustments section that the Remember Me release date has been pushed back from February 12 to March 12.

Also scheduled to a wide release that week are:
The Backup Plan, a romantic comedy with Jennifer Lopez
The Green Zone, a thriller with Matt Damon and Jason Isaacs
Our Family Wedding, a comedy with Forest Whitaker

There has been no offical confirmation of the date change by either Summit or Underground Productions.

Filmmaker Mini Bios

Allen Coulter – Director. He studied theater direction at the University of Texas. He has directed for both the big and small screen. Best known works – Allen has directed episodes of the Sopranos and Sex in the City and his full length film Hollywoodland (2006). He has been nominated for four Emmys for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for his work in the Sopranos (2000, 2001, 2004) and Damages (2007).


Will Fetters – Writer of Original Screenplay. Formerly entitled Memoirs, Will’s first commercially produced screenplay was listed on Hollywood’s Black List. He has been tapped to write the screenplays for Crazy for the Storm, The Lucky One and the remake of A Star is Born.


Jenny Lumet – Writer. She started out in acting, but eventually found her calling with writing screenplays. Best known works – Jenny wrote the screenplay for Rachel Getting Married (2008). For her work on this film, Jenny won Best Screenplay from the New York Film Critics Circle, the Toronto Film Critics Association, and the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association. She also won the Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture.


Marcelo Zarvos – Composer Original Score. He studied music at the California Institute of Art where he received his BFA. He received a Masters Degree from Hunter College in New York City. He has composed scores for TV and films, music for dance and concert and has released 3 jazz albums. Best known works – the score for the HBO film Taking Chance (2009) and his album Labyrinths. He was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Musical Composition for a Mini Series, Movie or a Special for his work on Taking Chance (2009).


Nick Osborne – Producer. He studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University in England and at the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California. In 1999, Nick started his own production company O/Z Films and in 2000 he executive produced his first film, Urban Legends – Final Cut (2000). Currently Nick is a full partner at Underground Films and Management, which he started in 2001 using O/Z Films as a base.


Trevor Engelson – Producer. He studied at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California. Trevor’s first job as a filmmaker was as a production assistant for Deep Blue Sea (1999). Currently, Trevor is a full partner at Underground Films and Management.

Remember Me Connections....Taking Chance on HBO

Another film with a strong Remember Me connection is going to be shown on HBO on Wednesday November, 11th at 8:30 PM EST.

Taking Chance is based on real-life events. Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a volunteer military escort officer, accompanies the body of 19-year-old Marine Chance Phelps back to his hometown of Dubois, Wyoming. It's a poignant, emotional journey which accurately portrays the care and protocol given to our nation's fallen heroes.

Remember Me's original music composer Marcelo Zarvos also wrote the score for this film. He received an Emmy nomination for his work. Tate Ellington appears in this film as A.V. Scott and Ruby Jerins plays the role of Olivia Strobl.

Filmmaker Spotlight Marcelo Zarvos

Marcelo Zarvos, who is composing the score for Remember Me, is a Brazilian born composer. His music, a blend of Brazilian folk, jazz and classical music, has sometimes been referred to as “world chamber music”. He has written scores for films and for television, music for dance and for concerts. He has also written and released several jazz albums.

When he was 10 years old, he started playing classical piano, at 13 he was playing in nightclubs and the next year he was playing in a band called Tokyo We. For the next 4 years, he was part of that band that released a couple of albums and toured around Brazil. When he was 17, he left the band to continue his musical studies. He started his classical training in Sao Paulo with H.J Koelreutter who had previously trained many other great Brazilian composers.

Marcelo initially wanted to study film scoring and enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. After starting there, he decided he wanted a broader background and transferred to California Institute of Arts where he received his BFA while studying classical, jazz and world music. He received his Master’s Degree from Hunter College in New York City. He first started writing his music during this time.

His first score was written for the short Brazilian film, A Soccer Story (1999). The director of the film, Paulo Machline heard him playing in Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory and wanted Marcelo to write a score using his personal blend of brazilian, jazz and classical music that he had heard him play that night. His work on this film led him to his next project and first feature film Tully(2000).
Another of his early work in feature films was The Mudge Boy (2003). Variety reviewer David Rooney described this film as being “graced with a gentle elegantly unobtrusive score”. The Door on the Floor (2004) featured his first score to be released commercially on a DVD. Next up, Marcelo teamed up with director Allen Coulter to produce the smoky and sultry score for Hollywoodland (2006). Robert DeNiro, after hearing his score for Hollywoodland, chose him to score part of The Good Shepherd (2006). Taking Chance (2009) garnered Marcelo an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Musical Composition for Mini Series, Movie or a Special. For the score of What Just Happened (2008), he had to score a movie within a movie . On one of his more recent endeavors, reviewer Zach Freeman calls the score for Sin Nombre (2009) “a surprisingly thrilling collection of music. Zarvos’s work feels raw and unpretentious”.

In addition to his work in film, Marcelo has composed the score for the National Museum of Natural History’s space show Cosmic Collisions and the dance scores for Aquatica, Divinities and The Path. He has also written chamber music, most notably Nepomuk’s Dances for string quartet, Changes for wind quintet and piano and a NEA commission for the string quartet Ethel. Most recently he added his music to Sounds of Brazil – Music for Wind Quartet performed by the Quintet of the Americas.

He has released three albums of his own work. Dualism, Labyrinths and Music Journal combine his personal sound of classical, jazz and brazilian folk and urban music. Labyrinths was named one of the top ten jazz albums in 1998 by CD Now.
