Cast Spotlight Tate Ellington

Rumour on the net has Tate Ellington being cast for the part of Aidan, Tyler Roth’s friend and room-mate. Pictures appeared yesterday and Monday of Tate and Rob being filmed as they were walking around the campus of NYU.

Tate Ellington has had both theater and film experience. Currently he is appearing on Broadway in the Roundabout Theater Company’s production of The Philanthropist which also stars Matthew Broderick. Tate plays a young student who is also a playwright. The play runs through June 28th.

His film credits include the character Oliver Hunt in the drama Elephant King (2006). Oliver is the quiet, shy brother who is involved in a continuous victim-bully relationship with his domineering and angry older brother. They try to come to terms with their relationship amid drink, drugs and women in exotic Thailand. Elephant King was a selection to the Tribecca Film Festival in 2007, and Tate was awarded the 2007 Brooklyn International Film Festival Certificate of Excellence for this role.

He was cast in the horror film, Red Hook (2009), in which he plays Gavin, the boyfriend of an agoraphobic college freshman who has to go on a scavenger hunt through out New York City in order to save his life. Red Hook is due to be released later this year.

Tate has had parts in Breaking Upwards (2009), a romantic comedy indie flick, Taking Chance (2009) a real-life based real-life drama, Decent (2007), Red (2008), and You are Alone (2005), all three dramas.

He has two movie shorts to his credit too. Lower East Side (2005) is a 17 minute short. Tate was one of three cast in Ariana (2004), a 27 minute short which won the 2006 Audience Award for Best Short Film at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. He plays the live-in lover of a man who is dealing with the advancing dementia of his live-in grandmother.

Tate has also guest-starred in two TV series, Fox’s Rescue Me and the 2009 summertime ABC drama, The Unusuals.

Filming starts for Remember Me

Rob was smiling this morning at the start of the filming his new film, Remember Me. The filming took place in and around the NYU campus in New York City. With fan girls and paparazzi outnumbering the film crew, Rob was filmed walking down the street with his friend, smoking and drinking coffee. Apparently Rob’s on screen character Tyler shares Rob’s wardrobe of plaid shirts, tees, black shoes and Ray-bans.

Rob seemed at ease earlier in the morning, talking, laughing and eating breakfast with some of the cast and extras.

Unfortunately some fan girls showed a total lack of restraint and respect yelling during the filming, chasing Rob to his trailer and asking for autographs right before a shoot.

Rob’s co-star Emilie de Ravin who plays Ally, his (or Tyler’s) on-screen love interest was also was on set today.

Rob Talks about "Remember Me"

While in Cannes recently, Rob Pattinson talked with Stuart Kemp, the Hollywood Reporter U.K. Bureau Chief about "Remember Me".

THR: How did "Remember Me" come about?

Pattinson: I read the script last summer and then met with (director) Allen Coulter and really liked it. It's quite a simple story but there was something about the character and way he spoke that was very similar to the way I speak. There is a naturalism to the writing and I really felt a connection to it.

THR: What's the script about?

Pattinson: I read somewhere it was being described as the modern day "Love Story." It isn't anything like "Love Story." It ("Remember Me") is really hard to describe. It about a 23-year-old guy and knowing someone for six weeks. You don't just fall in love and say, I'm in love, after six weeks. It's really a relationship story. It's very natural and the characters are incredibly real and well scripted. It's one of the few scripts I've read where you finish and realize you didn't really want it to end. I have no qualms in saying that (writer) Jenny (Lumet) is a genius.

THR: How so?

Pattinson: I went up to her house one weekend and we all hung out there and just chatted about the script and asked me what I wanted from it. She worked on the draft and about a week later she delivered this script. She'd captured little bits of my voice and all the inflections and mannerisms I have. The character in the script is quite similar to me.

THR: Playing yourself?

Pattinson: You can only really play yourself in a role once every 15 years I think (laughs). And you can only do it if its a good script and captures you properly. It is very therapeutic actually.

THR: Where and when?

Pattinson: It is set in NYC and will shoot there for eight weeks.

THR: You sound like you enjoyed helping with the writing of "Remember Me." A frustrated writer?

Pattinson: No, it's great when someone else is doing the writing for you.

Summit Entertainment has set Emilie de Ravin ("Lost"), Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper to star alongside Robert Pattinson in "Remember Me," the Allen Coulter-directed drama that begins production in New York on June 15.
