We have commented before about the similarities between Ally's father and Tyler. Do you think that there are similarities between Ally and Tyler's mother?
Diane and Ally are both survivors. They are both sensitive, both in social work, which tells a lot about how they want to make their mark in the world and the lens through which they see it (which was different from the original script, in which Diane, if I recall, had an art gallery). The obvious is that they both love Tyler, in different ways. They are both peacekeepers; Diane at the sweets shop tries to keep Charles and Tyler from fighting, -again, and Ally has been the referee at the Oak Room. All of this means that these women both have a tendency to see many sides, whereas the men--Neil, Charles and Tyler--have tunnel vision and have great difficulty seeing another point of view.
On the other hand, Diane, like Charles, and Tyler, lets her emotions show. Her woundedness is always noticeable. Whereas Ally always seems strong, this rock everyone leans on, from her Dad to Tyler. Of course we must remember that we see very little of Diane and can only speculate on a lot. Ally is so much a major figure that we know her much better. -Those are my observations now.
I wonder where all of the rest of you have gone as I would like to hear your comments too.
