Why does Tyler shrug off his incarceration after the fight in the alley?

In my opinion it's because what moves Tyler is the hurt he feels for his father, his sadness by the loss of Michael. These feelings are so strong that he didn`t think twice about risking his own life to fighting with strangers in the alley and then risking being jailed for contempt, he confronts Sgt Craig. Tyler really wants is to draw the attention of his father, even if he says to himself and others that is not. What is more interesting for me is that Aidan calls Charles for paying the bail of Tyler instead of Diane or Les.

I'm really struggling with this question. When I saw the film I really wondered about his attitude. I also wondered if it was really the fist time he got landed in jail after a brawl - mmh, maybe not. He doesn't seem afraid, just bothered, hating to be trapped - he paces up and down constantly - but not really afraid, or if he is, he hides it well. He seems more concerned and guilty about Aidan who is genuinely worried. I guess Tyler is using this new (or maybe not so new) experience to validate his opinion about the relative insignificance of life and of his own actions. In jail, not in jail... nothing matters anyway, so why should he care? Why should anyone care? However I think he is probably just showing off and bragging, trying on this attitude, "testing" it. I think there's a lot of self-irony when he laughs at Aidan for using the word "nihilistic" - actually, Aidan probably hit the mark, because it's true at that specific point of his friend's life for the moment: Tyler is playing at being nihilistic and he knows it perfectly.

To me it's like at this point he's trying to show he doesn't care at the moment what's happening to him even though he really does to some extent. He does have that smart a** attitude in this scene. Rum, I think you nailed it with your nihilistic comment.

I'm sure I've spoken to this on one of the daily quotes. You've all heard it before. It was 'out there'.
