I don't think so but I do think he let him think he was going to walk away and leave him and may have walked out of his sight for a minute before going back and taking off the weight.
He was so angry with Aidan I'm sure he must have walked away for a short moment and then come back and helped him - but not before taunting him and extracting all sorts of silly promises from Aidan (who would have to say yes, of course). I guess we can let our imagination go pretty wild here and imagine some crazy dialogue between these two. I love the scene! I remember how people just choked with laughter in the theater! Guys really liked this moment.
Men see things from a different point of view and friendship among them is very funny. They make me smile everytime because in a moment, they can fight with each others for something that might be important or silly ( this impulsive thing, sometimes might be a bad thing ) but in another time they are talking and laughing as if nothing had happened before. I think it's very cool because they don`t hold grudges, of course I'm generalizing, because people are not all equal. Although Tyler is more sensitive and fragile, full of anger and hurt, even so, I don`t believe he could hurt someone intentionally, even though Aidan annoys him, sometimes, he is someone that Tyler considers a lot and even Charles, during the fight in the office, I doubt that confusion wouldn`t end with the two men weeping in the arms of one another and maybe everything had been solved at once. Tyler and Aidan are normal and smart guys, sometimes they are irritated with each other but then they are capable of acts of altruism and love, are very human. There is no rivalry between them, or pettiness, jealousy. They really care about each other. Tyler and Aidan are more than brothers they are friends. Want something more beautiful than that? Well, it was me who ended up being jealous. I really wanted to have friends like them. I love these two boys and I love more than ever Rob and Tate, for playing so naturally, the friendship of these two adorable characters.
Why yes, Tyler does relent. Otherwise the two of them wouldn't come into the apt. together, laughing a minute later, to find Ally sitting on their couch.
He does relent, but not before making Aidan think there was a very real possibility he would leave him there. Such a lovely friendship, comfortable, teasing, honest, emotionally supportive. Rather rare to see on screen as most films don't go near this level of friendship between young men. All things considered, Tyler was lucky to have him as a roommate and buddy. Losing a good friend is as devastating as losing a brother or sister, and Aidan lost a lot when he lost Tyler.

Because Aiden could die. Seriously, walking away could've led to his friend's death.
