Remember Me Discussion - Outside the Film

"I can't deal with this brooding, introverted shit anymore man." ~Aidan

Critics complained that Robert was too brooding in the role of Tyler. Did they latch onto this line and run with it?

Do you agree that Tyler brooded too much or were the other aspects of his personality that were ignored by them.

tyler was soul searching for answers why his brother took his life writting in his journal to keep a conection to keep him apart of his life he couldnt let go scared and guilty to live life when his brother couldnt he played music when he believed he wasnt good to keep alive something so passioatly loved by his brother brooding to me says hes simply and only dwelling on the negative feeling sorry for what hes lost and i dont feel he is the greatest gift to michaels memory is to enjoy life and to share that journey with the people you love without the restraint of guilt thats not what theyd want and he finaly does this
tyler has great love and compansion affection and tenderness and i feel rob potrays this well once he meets ally he becomes lighter and happier , the director chose not to let tyler and kiss he shortened the sherads game where they are relaxed and connecting as a family also the train scene the beach scene and arcade scene where he would have shown a lighter side and more balance to his charecter which rob is more than capable of doing (this is exactly what happened in his other films and he received the same critisism) hes choosing complex meaning full characters and seeminglessly allows you to take their journey with them you care about his characters conect with them become emotionaly invested its a shame certain people dont show him more trust and support and trust his insticts about the charecter and how to portray them (im thinking more about other films) one thing rob seems to grasp and understand is the true connection depth and meaning of love and being in love and compassion unfortunatly this isnt always understood by the people making the choices i wish rob had more self confidence to follow his instincts and what he feels is right you can always tell when hes playing a scene he doesnt feel is played the right way(not always right, )
he was fantastic as tyler we cared about him fell in love with him and grieved for him
many actors with more experience could have brought a more accepting views from the criticts edward and the circumstances how tyler lost his life aee reasons why it was not given a chance if they had all given oscar winning preformances it would have barely had polite reviews
they gave the opinion that we were suddenly thrown into a horrific tastlessly done scene showing and dipicting in detail what happened luckily enough people trust robs integratity that he would not have taken part inthat
the date was held and shown clearly on the blackboard a couple of scenes from the tower which was dealt with amazingly and sympatheticaly no one spoke after that scene you cant always explain how you feel or understand it show of affection and connection and how we affect peoples lives even with very small gestures
the film help me connect emotioaly to that day
( sor i havnt expressed myself properly and gone off thread hope it makes enough sense) it was very beautifull film and rob showed a lot of depth and
emotion his character would have been more balanced showing more emotion and development of the character had it been shown

Aidan, the friend was great in this film. He's pulling for him and everyone sometime or another needs this kind of friend, the positive/negative charge. I think we all know Tyler can be playful, etc. they just decided to show more of the despair or darkness, with Aidan to get him out of it. Wasn't Tyler's anguish more fresh than Allie's in terms of years, so therefore more intense with these feelings as Allie's had times/years to numb or heal. Surrender or release, with Tyler's apparent happiness at the end shows us he was going to live with contentment and move on. So the "brooding shit" was fine! thanks,Kim
Anonymous above/nice words.

I am surprised that no actor was nominated this morning for this movie, what a shame/probably too scared to touch the topic(ending). As we know, the ending is one small piece of the puzzle.

No. I don't think he brooded too much at all. Considering the circumstances he had to deal with (an emotionally absent father, death of a big brother, etc.), he was dealing with life. Perhaps the critics did choose to ignore how he lit up around his little sister? Or how hard he loved those closest to him, including his father?
