I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying the daily quotes as we anxiously await the DVD release. Thanks for doing this....

Haha, the "giant freakin' panda" line is my favorite! I was so glad to see it as today's quote. Some other favorite quotes of mine are, of course, the "abso-freakin-lutely" line(I just realized he says "freakin" a lot), the line about Aiden being an "assaholic", and "It was a horrible, threshing accident. It was horrible."(Tyler to Caroline)

Oh, and I also love the thing about the "yuletide homicide" that Caroline says!

Everyone, I commented at length--what else is new?--on quote #48, "she drew you a picture...". Anybody have anything to say about that? Instntkarmagirl and I talked about the issue of Tyler wanting to win and she actually used this panda quote, which got us/me thinking.
Let me know -k?

Hillary...yeah, I like those 'freakin' lines too, which was probably to keep the PG rating so he wouldn't swear. Although I don't think Tyler would swear in front of Caroline, do you?
And the 'threshing accident' line is wonderful.

Oh, and Kat, I love when he speaks in mutilated French to Caroline: 'sacre bleu' and all that. God, he's got the most beautiful voice. Orpheus, watch out.

The panda line was so cute. I bet no one missed Tyler's raised eyebrow somewhere in that exchange. Only time I've ever seen Rob do that, in a film or in real life. Sexy and very appealing. He's reeling her in.

Now does anyone have anything more substantive to say about this line? LTavares? Heidi? Rum?
Get in here. Always love to hear your takes.

I don't know, I would say that line fits so well Tyler's perseverance (we can even say stubbornness). He hates so bad losing or surrendering and it's funny to notice that he'll do it though in the shower scene with Ally; she's probably the only person (with Caroline) who he allows to take control. And that is certainly one of the things I like the most about Tyler! He defies authority, beats up anything that moves, but becomes so tender and caring with his sister and Ally.

Sarah (sorry for the bad english ^^)

Ah the panda scene! I love it. I was away from my computer for a couple of days and still find you all commenting away - it's lovely to have this place, thank you Kat. I love the way Tyler gets angry at the panda, in a good-natured way - but still, he loeses hi snerve a bit and does bash the panda on the head! Does anyone know that in the original script, or maybe iin a cut scene, he also says to the panda "I'll make you love me?"... it's a pity they cut that one out. And - speaking of the panda - has anyone ever noticed later in the taxi scene that when Ally installs the panda in the car (almost as if it were a real baby)she bends quickly AND KISSES IT ? Before refusing to kiss Tyler? You've got to be real quick to catch that moment - it's just a glimpse - but I swear she gives the panda a quick peck before she goes out of the car again.

I love the way Tyler interacts with Ally in this scene and specially with the panda (LOL). I like so much when a film subverts a cliche: in a typical romantic scene like this, the good guy wins the girl showing his abilities, conquering a prize to her, but as I happily noticed in Remember Me, this expectative is broken using an alternative and more realistic way. In this scene in the amusement park Tyler wins the girl simply not hidding how he really is. He gives the panda to Ally and only this. Seeing Remember Me I realized why Rob chose this project. He is very comfortable with his character. Emilie is very natural also, they have good chemistry and good partnership.

I added more comments in reply on the other thread (the boardroom quote)

Love this scene because it reminds me of first dates where you're not SURE about someone but you totally feel it. Does that make sense?

Anonymous...always interesting comments. xo

Thanks, karma...
I went back to it again and added another $1.95 worth. I was really impressed with everyone else's comments there.

And yeah, the date does seem very real, and as LTavares says, the panda sequence was played out in a pretty original manner. In fact, although the film uses some fairly standard story features, it does so in an original, subtle and touching manner. I think we've all said that in one way or another.
In so many ways a most exquisite film. Sigh.

@jessegirl Caught the eyebrow move! Didn't you all love his facial expressions in this movie? Such a wide variety and so full of emotion. Love how he uses his sense of humor to ease some of the more tense moments, especially when he gets uncomfortable. I thought the panda line was cute and it was funny seeing him get all flustered trying to win her over by winning the panda.

@LTavares2010 I can't say enough about the chemistry between these two in this movie-it's amazing. They just click so well together.

@instntkarmagirl Agree about the first date comment. It seems at first Tyler doesn't know exactly where he stands on the date, but he realizes he is starting to have feelings for Ally.

I've just come back from seing the film once again (it's shown in only one tiny, shabby theater in Paris) and I can confirm it: Ally KISSES THE PANDA in the taxi. You can even hear the little kissing noise. And then - she turns down Tyler... how funny is that? :)) Oh I love every tiny detail in this film. It took me about one million viewings to notice the panda kiss though.. it's amazing. I supposed I was too focused on Tyler fidgeting on the cab door.

How many times is it for you, Rum??

WhyIstheRumAlwaysGone said...

How many times? I've lost count. I don't know. Honestly. 15 times? Maybe? But today I had the excuse of taking someone who hadn't seen the film. I know, it's a very lame excuse. Plus, I have the excuse of running my own blog now, and commenting here, so I'm supposed to study my subject seriously - am I not? It's probably the very last time I see RM theaters though, as the film will certainly leave theaters in France this week.

I think I've seen it almost 12 times....I used the excuse of taking anyone who hasn't seen it before also...LOL

jessegirl said...

10 times for me, three with significant others and the rest alone. But as we discuss certain scenes I can see it in my head. Not all of it, I leave the object details to Rum, but every expression Tyler makes...lol....
