The dinner at Tyler home, what a scene!. If I am not wrong this is the part when Tyler remembers Ally her thought about desserts. I love the way he shows the cake and the way he looks at her, it is funny. He is so "ordinary man" at this part of the scene, his shirt is mashed, the beer, the way he holds the cake ( I don`t know in the other countries but in mine most of the ordinary men act like him).
More points to Rob, he is very natural. He and Emilie are very good together. The scene becomes more funny and sexy with the spaghetti bathing`s sequence and the final is highly erotic and romantic at the same time, with both playing with the showerhead. The whole scene is very natural and a superb work of Rob and Emilie. Coulter is a very good director .

To me, this scene is our first evidence that Tyler is making and effort in this relationship. Yeah...he tried to win her the 'giant freaking panda' but was that out of his desire to win or was it for her? Hmmm....this time, he is putting an effort into pleasing her...making her happy...he's engaged in life for probably the first time in a long time....and it suits him.

Love how they interact together...the chemistry is excellent although I think Rob could have chemistry with a rock....

@soozy, yes I think we see Tyler really making an effort, getting attracted to and interested in Ally. I love how he remembered what Ally said about asteroids, and how she said she always ate dessert first. He probably baked that cake himself - it's a bit misshapen! I love too how Aidan thoughlessly cut out and ate a piece of it while he was high. And what about hiding the cake in a lampshade? This is so hilarious! You can also tell Ally is moved and happy to find him so charming after all - what girl wouldn't be?

This is where we start to see a real change in his mood and attitude...there's his life before and after Ally. I love how she shows him how to look differently at everyday things like when she has her dessert first; it totally throws him off. He's so cynical and gloomy but yet she breaks him out of his negative way of thinking.

@soozy Agree, the Chemistry is so amazing! It's so natural you almost forget they are acting.

You've all said it; I have little to offer in addition. It is a very sweet scene and if I were her I'd be swept off my feet--actually, she is, on the way to the shower..lol.
A lot happens that night. This is the beginning and later she's throwing up in the toilet, having to stay the night, drunk, because Aiden pushed the envelope. That sets a worried Neil in motion.
And, because of the shower incident, Tyler has to change his shirt, she sees the tattoo, and that revelation occurs.
See, you guys knew all that.

soozy and Heidi...Yes, Ally brings him back to life, so to speak. She is an unusual individual, not at all an ordinary girl and she engages him. Right, all of you, the fact that he goes to the trouble not only of making her a cake, but also of making the connection between that and her dessert preference means that, even though he thought the idea weird earlier, he's willing to go along with it for her sake. The fact that he'd go out of his way to please her means that he's gotten off his grieving ass and done something else.

Ally is different. Look at the girls in the alley. Aiden even refers to the girl Tyler left in his bed as a 'bimbo', I believe. But yet, the scene in the classroom where Tyler really notices her...the scene where she responds to the professor....he sees that she's different. She's intelligent, articulate and not timid to voice an opinion....she's someone he could respect.

So this scene...to me...i also about him trying to impress her...earn her respect.

I love you all, I really do and I am so thankful for this site because I want to connect with people who love this film.

First, I love Tyler's homemade cake. He could have gone to a bakery and bought one, but he made her one. I love the lampshade and I love his mannerisms. I love him leaning against the counter/frige and watching her look at his things.

I love interactions in small spaces like this. I love seeing people react to other people's living spaces. Ally is very accepting.

I agree that this scene is where Tyler is really putting himself out there. When she is "acting" upset about him spraying her, watch his face, watch his stance, watch his whole body...he's trying to contain it, but he's NERVOUS. Did he REALLY offend her, did she dislike him now?

This scene is where Ally sees who Tyler is by being in his space and this is where Tyler lets himself be seen, really seen by someone he wants to care about.

And I'm sorry, holding back a girl's hair while she pukes on the second date? That's substantial.

And I agree with soozy, he notices her and her intelligence right away.

Also, love the actual meeting scene where he's kinda nervous/spastic about introducing himself to her. I love his smiles and his nervous gestures. And "Teens, teens, I can do teens" Absofreakinlutely wonderful.

I used to comment on the imbd Remember Me site but a lot of people seemed to have disappeared. Then there was the problem of the trolls lurking there which was frustrating.

I have loved and visited this site for many months.

I have read this board from nearly the beginning but never really commented and if I did...I was Greek....anonymous.

I adored this movie. The message is just so important and it was so well directed and acted. I could talk about this movie all day long....honestly. This is one of those movies that leaves you thinking and possibly even reevaluating your own life and actions. Those just don't come along that often any more...

It was the same look he had after he squirted her with the hand sprayer...his eyes got wide....loved it. So expressive.

I'll go to #55 and thanks for returning.

soozy...re: your last comment and his eyes going wide. I don't think I've ever seen his eyes quite like that--and I've made a study of them, lol---and after he sprays her, he's adorable. That child-like quality, that vulnerable yet playful and mischievous absofreakinlutely quality is endearing, and, to me, it has to be said, not at all sexual (not at that moment).
Karma..and yes he is insecure there too. He really shows his insecurity and vulnerability to Ally, all along. That's trust, even early in the relationship. Notice how he totally ignored the cowboy-hat girl who was coming on to him?

I love it when, at the end of the shower scene, after he says he gives up, he tries to put that soaked cigarette in his mouth, and grins with this soggy thing hanging out of his mouth. He's so sexy and adorable then. That bathroom is SO grungy and ugly and to see Rob's beautiful face with that ugly background is interesting.
Can you tell I like him? -Duh.

@soozy - this is a bit OT, but I've commented on a older post - "Looking At Remember Me - Remembrances" and you mentioned a Dali print in the flat. Do you have more information? I've started a blog on RM (Kat here and jessegirle and LTavares know about that) and I'm really interested in the art in this film. But I'm not familiar with Dali at all. Can you give me more details? It would be lovely... thanks! Hope you read this..

how cute was Tyler with that line? And Ally doesn't react, so he's forced to move on and push past it.

One of the great things about Ally is that she makes him WORK for something. She makes him put effort into things, which is very intuitive of her because that's exactly what Tyler needs.
